I had the subtitles on but the subtitles on You tube are not really accurate.Ĥ. I kind of had a hard time understanding what he was saying because Sen and the guy interviewing him just kept talking over him. From what I gathered according to Sen if the country is a democracy then certain things won’t take place such as a famine. Sen feels that the individual freedom leads to social change and progress however individual freedom depends on certain social opportunities. No need to worry about any type of insurance because at the end of the day sometimes insurance does not always pay for everything.ģ. America’s healthcare is pretty expensive and since that is the case and not much is not being done about it I feel that everyone under the age of 18 should receive free healthcare especially those living under the poverty line. Sen gave me a point of view that I never thought about and the second reading just made me see that I am not wrong about the way I feel when it comes to the health of children. On slide 7 when you mentioned bad institutions are you talking about like jails/prisons? I was not sure what you’re talking about because I can’t think of any bad institution besides that or maybe like high crime neighborhoods which are usually located in poor neighborhoods.Ģ. 22 thoughts on “ Week 2 – Poverty and Capabilities”ġ. She goes on to say on her author page, that being dyslexic or learning disabled does not mean that a person is any less intelligent than those around her. One day, her teacher, who she calls one of her heroes, found out what was causing her difficulty and took the steps that were needed to get Polacco the help she needed to overcome her dyslexia. She felt so inadequate because all the other kids in her class were reading. The most interesting thing about Polacco, is that she did not learn how to read until she was 14. She believes her grandparents formed who she is today. Much of her time was spent with her grandparents and, if you look at her book illustrations, you can see that many of her books feature a young girl with an elderly character. These were soon inhabited by the strange native beings, with their caged flowers and birds of flame. People brought their old prejudices with them – and their desires and fantasies, tainted dreams. More rockets arrived from Earth, piercing the hallucinations projected by the Martians. The shape-changing Martians thought they were native lunatics and duly locked them up. Those few that survived found no welcome. Most succumbed to a disease they called the Great Loneliness when they saw their home planet dwindle to the size of a pin dot. ‘The Martian Chronicles’ tells the story of humanity’s repeated attempts to colonize the red planet. Written in the age of the atom when America and Europe optimisitcally viewed the discovery of life on Mars as inevitable, Bradbury’s 1940s short stories of a brutal, stark and unforgiving martian landscape were as shocking and visionary as they were insightful. The strange and wonderful tale of man’s experiences on Mars, filled with intense images and astonishing visions. The classic work that transformed Ray Bradbury into a household name. Not loved by many, he still joined teams and help save the world, the universe, and reality. Created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette, and John Totleben in 1984 in The Saga of Swamp Thing series, John Constantine is a working-class occult detective and con man from London. Desperate to stop the war, Christopher and his apostles turn the other cheek and in fact bring about peace. Morpurgo (Waiting for Anya), however, throws in a wholly unexpected twist in the form of Christopher, a Redlands boy who, by means of a few arguable ``miracles,'' secretly persuades several fellow students that he is Jesus. As the ``toffee-noses'' fight the ``oiks,'' even the headmaster and teachers take sides, and class hatred erupts full force. An innocent mistake triggers a series of brutal skirmishes between the privileged students of Redlands, an English boarding school, and the boys from the village. The war here is of the type waged primarily in fiction: an all-out battle at a boys' school. Despite the title, this is no historical novel, and the eponymous 18th-century war does not enter into the fervid plot. But when their parents decide to get married, another layer of forbidden enters their relationship. And he is determined to show Silver whom she belongs to. Now Silver is technically engaged to Aiden, but there is a dark connection between Cole and Silver. This is a story that delivers with Cole being one of the four horseman at Royal Elite and with our heroine being the "Queen B" but it also protrays so much more depth. Cole and Silver have known each other for a long time since they were children. In Ruthless Empire, we have the beginning of he romance between Cole and Silver. Rina Kent definitely delivered on Cole's book and I was so entranced by their connection and all that twisted angst that this author handles so beautifully. But if you are a fan of bully romance or new adult romance with a step sibling twist, then you definitely need to grab this one up. But I definitely enjoyed it in every single way! I had such a job reading this one, and it was so intense at times. Ruthless Empire is the 6th installment and this is where we finally get Cole's book and it was much more twisted than I actually expected from him. This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review. |
